    Our impact on health

Rural families throughout Central America cook on wood-burning cookstoves, typically indoors with inadequate ventilation. These same traditional cookstoves, which are often in use for up to 8 hours a day, can emit toxic smoke that contains 29 known carcinogens — so it’s no surprise that studies show poor indoor air quality leads to 3.2 million premature deaths per year. But there’s a recipe to help reduce those numbers — click through to see ours.

    Our impact on jobs

Environmental impact is one thing, but the real impact of a high quality carbon project comes from the additional benefits it provides to the communities in which it’s based. In rural Honduras alone, 6 out of 10 of households are subject to extreme poverty, with incomes of less than $3.80 per day. Since its founding, Proyecto Mirador has provided a direct financial benefit to these communities — adding over 300 well-paying jobs to a region that desperately needs them. See how we did it.

    Our impact on microenterprise

Our unique organizational structure means that we’re not just offering temporary or contract jobs to locals. We’re helping build sustainable, scalable micro-enterprises that not only bolster the local economy as a whole, but provide an ongoing, stable form of employment and investment to the community at large. With over 40 micro-enterprises founded to date, our impact on the region’s economy is easy to see. Take a look for yourself.
