Wednesday, November 30, 2016, 4:36 PM – It seems Frosty the Snowman is truly hurrying on his way and he may not come back again some day.

California-based nonprofit Cool Effect is melting the hearts of many with their new campaign, Save our Snowmen. The project features a mockumentary (see above) that illustrates the issue of climate change from the perspective of snowmen.

With 2016 poised to be the hottest year on record, the goal of the campaign is to inspire people to take action against climate change by supporting carbon reduction initiatives across the globe.

“Everyone loves snowmen, but they are melting right along with our glaciers,” said Marisa de Belloy, COO of Cool Effect in a press release. “We are educating in fresh, creative ways to make it interesting and fun to take direct and tangible action on this serious subject.”

are becoming refugees due to climate change, according to Cool Effect.

To kick off the campaign, Cool Effect and snowmen ambassadors canvassed New York City to encourage people to watch the mockumentary and raise awareness by posting selfies on social media while wearing snowman props. For every social share with the hashtag #SaveOurSnowman, the nonprofit says it will contribute one dollar (up to $10,000) to the cause.

According to Cool Effect’s website, a full financial and management due diligence is completed on each project the nonprofit funds by closely examining the amount reaching the actual beneficiary, a detailed breakdown of operational and administrative costs and an assessment of “additionality,” a key concept in carbon emission reducing programs.
